Brief History of the Department
The Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education stemmed from the then Educational Foundation and Management (EFM) Department now the Department of Educational Management (EDM) in 2011. The Department is currently being headed by Dr (Mrs) S. E. Ogunsile and presently, the Department has 8 members of Academic Staff and 2 non-teaching staff.
The objectives of the Department is to : produce highly motivated and efficient men/women capable of teaching Human Kinetics and Health Education courses at all levels, expose students to various sporting activities as effective means of building human relationship, instill in students a sense of enthusiasm for individual health, appreciation of its application in different areas and to involve them in intellectually stimulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying, and provide students with knowledge and skills to proceed for further studies in specialized areas of Human Kinetics and Health Education.
The programmes in the Department are developed on the fundamental assumption that students are entitled to acquire basic theoretical and practical knowledge in Human Kinetics and Health Education which will prepare them for the promotion of physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing of the populace. The Department offers courses both in Human Kinetics and Health Education and has produced notable alumni at both graduate and postgraduate levels. Many of the alumni of the Department are in various fields of endeavours such as academics, health, industries, ministries and public service both within and outside the Country.
