Prof. (Mrs) Mary Olufunke Adedokun

Head of Department

Prof. (Mrs) Mary Olufunke Adedokun is a Professor in the Department of Adult Education and Community Development, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. She attended Idi- Ito High School, Erunmu, Oyo State between 1973 and 1978 and Oyo State College of Education, Ila-Orangun  between 1980 and 1983 where she studied Education English/History. She later proceeded to the University of Ibadan to study Education, English and History between 1984 and 1987. She obtained her M. Ed Adult Education from the University of Ibadan in 1994 and bagged her Ph. D in 1998. Prof. (Mrs) Mary Olufunke Adedokun joined the services of the University of Ado Ekiti, Ado Ekiti (now Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti) as a Lecturer 11 on December 3, 2007. She rose steadily through the ranks to become a Professor of Adult Education on 1st October, 2020. Her research interest is in the areas of adult education and community development. She has published extensively in these areas. To date, she has 84 publications to her credit. These comprise four authored books, nine chapters in books, three articles in conference proceedings, and sixty eight articles in reputable journals across the world. She has attended various local and international conferences, seminars and workshops in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Togo and the United Arab Emirates. She has passion for academic excellence, this has manifested in her supervision of postgraduate students. Ever since the Department of Adult Education and Community Development was established in 2015. She has successfully supervised and graduated two Ph. D students and  one M. Ed student while two M. Ed students are about to complete their theses under her supervision. Her two Ph. D students are lecturers in the Department of Adult Education and Community Development.

Prof. (Mrs) M. O. Adedokun is a great scholar, a born teacher and one who loves her students. She has held various positions successfully in the University. These include:

She is currently a Senate Representative, to the College of Post Graduate Studies. She has also been chosen as the new substantive Head of Department of Adult Education. Prof. (Mrs) M. O. Adedokun is a member of various learned societies.

Services outside the University

She was a facilitator in the Literacy Enhancement and Achievement Programme Workshop (LEAP). She is presently the Director, Adventist Women’s Ministries, Oyo Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She has also been chosen as the new substantive Head of Department of Adult Education. Prof. (Mrs) M. O. Adedokun is married to Elder Isaac Adewale Adedokun and the marriage is blessed with loving children and grandchildren.
