Welcome to the Department of Social Science Education, Faculty of Education, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. This is a Department where students specialize in Social Science Programmes in Education. Social Science is a group of disciplines that studies people in various perspectives.  It deals with human behaviour, institutions, functioning of human society and interpersonal relationships of individuals as members of the society.  The disciplines that constitute Social Science include Geography, Political Science (Government), Social Studies and Economics.  Each of the Social Science disciplines has its focus, purpose, goals and objectives to accomplish in order to enhance meaningful living of the people in the society.

Our Philosophy

The Department of Social Science Education is designed to make students acquire knowledge of the Social Sciences and understand their relevance to developing the society through effective teaching to ensure attainment of national objectives of education. The Department also provides adequate training for students through quality instruction to guarantee acquisition of competencies necessary for their development into sound and active teachers. The philosophy of the Postgraduate Programmesin Social Science Education is based on development of professional teachers who will be able to function effectively in teaching at both lower and higher levels of Education.  The core aim is to prepare graduates for careers in teaching, learning and research in institutions of higher learning.
