Dr. Alonge, Rufus Ajayi is the current Acting Head of Department of Social Science
Education. He hails from Ikere-Ekiti in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State,
Nigeria. He attended St. Luke’s Ang. Primary School, Ikere-Ekiti and Amoye Grammar
School, Ikere-Ekiti where he obtained the West African Examination School Certificate
in 1989 with good grades.
He later proceeded to Ondo State College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti (now, Bamidele
Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti), 1991/92-
1993/94 session where he won the best graduating student in School of Arts and Social
Science in 1994 academic session. The B. Ed. (Hons) degree in Social Studies (1999)
with a Second Class (Upper Division) from Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti, now Ekiti
State University, Ado-Ekiti. He later proceeded to University of Ado-Ekiti, now, Ekiti
State University, Ado where he obtained Master of Education (M. Ed) degree (2008) and
the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree, (2016) in Social Studies with specialization in
contemporary issues, methodology and values system. Dr. Alonge observed the National
Youth Service Corp Scheme (NYSC) at Government Day Secondary School, Alkaleri,
Bauchi State, Nigeria from 1999-2000. He started his teaching career in 2002 and taught
Economics, Government and Social Studies at SSS and JSS Classes in Nova International
Secondary School, Ado-Ekiti. He joined the service of the Ekiti State University in
March, 2012 as Assistant Lecturer. He has since risen through the ladder of academics
over the years, Dr. Alonge is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social
Science Education, Faculty of Education where he teaches Social Studies courses both at
the undergraduate and Post-graduate levels. 

In the course of attaining his present status, he has served as level Coordinator, member
of several Faculty Committees, immediate past Sub-Dean, Faculty of Education (2021-
2023) and External Examiner and Moderator to Affiliate Colleges of the Faculty. He is a
registered teacher with TRCN, and a member of the following academic and professional
bodies: Reading Association of Nigeria (RAN) and Social Studies Association of Nigeria
(SOSAN). He has published a good number of articles in both reputable local and
International Journals. He is a Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
He is happily married and blessed with God fearing children. He was appointed the
Acting Head of Department on 1 st of August, 2023 and re-appointed on 1 st August, 2024
for second term.
